<description>As many of you have pointed out to me recently, I am always going on and on about the importance of estate planning and creating and maintaining your will. Most people kind of figure that I do this as part of my job; however, my thinking and rational are quite different, although the core values are basically the same; I want you to take care of your family, the charities you are passionate about and your community. That’s basically it in a nut-shell.

Wills planning is so important as it can have a significant and positive impact on your family. Isn’t that something we all long for, that when we pass we know our family is protected and taken care of? The very simple step of logging onto our electronic wills planner will launch you on your way to protecting your family. It is also so important to your family that you direct your healthcare wishes. This way, your family can have the comfort of knowing they are making choices that are important and consistent with your values should you become incapacitated. If you have minor children, you will want to select reliable guardians and trustees that share your vision and values to raise your children as you want them to be raised. Please, please don’t leave these important decisions to a third party! We often think that we will not become incapacitated; however these things typically happen very unexpectedly and very suddenly. In fact, I was temporarily incapacitated this summer through the results of an accident. As I was healing from my injuries I was so happy to have the comfort of knowing, that is something worse did happen, my children…and my dogs would be well cared for!

Like me, many of you have interests in the community that you are very passionate about and want to make sure these interests survive for generations to come. It could be the trails, the protection of animals, child welfare, the recreation that is available through the YMCA or an endless number of other issues that make up our community. Through proper wills planning you will be empowered to support your areas of interest long into the future. But wait, the deal gets even better – through proper estate planning you can be sure to maximize the legacy that you leave to your family as well as maximize the legacy you leave to the community. Did you realize that different types of assets are taxed differently depending on to whom they are left? This can be very costly to your estate, your family and your area of interest.

Estate planning and wills development is an exciting time. You have the power to deploy your assets to reflect the values that you have lived by. You have made such a wonderful difference in our community for so long; please consider ensuring that you make a difference for generations to come.

By following this hotlink you will be able to begin a very exciting wills planning journey!
